Evaluation of an internal medicine residency curriculum from trainees' perspective: A qualitative study from a developing country

Objectives: This study aimed to identify the areas of strength and needing improvement in internal medicine residency curriculum a developing country - Sudan. Materials Methods: qualitative was conducted at six major teaching hospitals Purposive sampling used select 48 residents who participated focus group discussions (FGDs). All FGDs were audio taped lasted between 60 90 min. Data collection continued until theoretical saturation took place. The transcribed data analyzed using content analysis technique, codes generated categorized into subthemes. Three emerging themes identified: training curriculum, research, assessment residents. Results: generally satisfied with planning level. They reported that structure program is suitable duration appropriate; number patients research considered optimum. suggested should begin earlier time reserved for conducting needs improvement. Conclusion: highlighted utility approach identifying residents' perspectives their educational programs. However, provided suggestions following areas: training, assessment. practical recommendations from this could be improve quality postgraduate medical Sudan elsewhere.
